Star Trek Online - Interview
Interview mit dem Executive Producer
Craig Zinkievich: Our exploration content is throughout the game, as well as the endgame.
Anytime the player feels like it – they can travel to the edge of known space, or enter a star cluster to be taken to a Genesis location. These maps are procedurally and algorithmically created to allow us to build the thousands and thousands of worlds that you need to have to “Boldy go where no one has gone before.”
Onlinewelten: Is it possible to have more than one ship, that we can specialize our ships for PvE and PvP for example? If yes, can we switch any time between them?
Craig Zinkievich: Yes, you can own multiple ships and switch between them. You switch between them at star bases by talking to an NPC. You can’t just press a button in space and magically appear in another ship, but you do have the option of changing what you’re flying.
Onlinewelten: What are your plans for the european release? Will the localized versions release at the same time as the english version? And do we european players get a pre-order offer or a Collector's Edition?
Craig Zinkievich: STO will be delivered in English, French and German at launch and we are working toward a simultaneous release in North America and the EU, but there may be a couple days difference due to the way EU distribution and North American distribution practices differ. The US loves Tuesdays, apparently.
Certainly, we're also working toward offering pre-orders and the Collector's Edition for our EU players. We offered pre-order incentives to the EU for Champions and would have offered a collector's edition if one existed. Onlinewelten: Will the pricing for the game and subscription be the same as for Champions Online (including a lifetime subscription)? This question leads us to microtransaction as well. What items and services will you offer in the Cryptic Shop for Star Trek Online. Is it possible to earn the points for the Shop in game too?
Craig Zinkievich: We are still working how subscriptions will work and hope to be able to share this with you over the coming weeks. For now, nothing is set in stone.
Onlinewelten: Final question: Everybody should try Star Trek Online next year because…?
Craig Zinkievich: The latest Star Trek movie that was released in 2009 focused heavily on the relationship between Kirk and Spock. What I am personally really excited about is the Bridge Officer system in game that will really appeal to new fans. Being able to fully tailor, level up, gear and play with your bridge officers is something that we are really excited about introducing. Also by setting the game in the near future, Star Trek fans will be familiar with the setting, but as so much has happened in the 30 years that have passed since Nemesis they need to learn what is going on and will ultimately feel as though they are the captain of a new series.
Onlinewelten: Thank you very much for your time and the interview!

Die open beta wird sehr interessant werden. Auch in Hinblick darauf, wieviel man in der beta sehen kann. Es gab bei CO auch Einschränkungen, wie kein Zugang zu Monster Insel/Lemuria.......
