F.E.A.R. 3 - Interview
Wenn das Alma wüsste

Onlinewelten: The AI in your games has been worthy of praise all along. Do you still have an ace up your sleeve?

Jason Frederick: Absolutely! For example, we have a number of new enemies that showcase Armacham’s newly acquired “Phase” technology that we’re ready to throw at the player. One such enemy is the Phase Caster who has the ability to summon enemies from seemingly anywhere, which forces players to work together and communicate, and utilize all 360-degrees of cover if they intend to defeat him.

Onlinewelten: At the moment the trend points to co-op entertainment. Will it be possible to enjoy the game together?

Jason Frederick: We’ve made it a priority to ensure the single player portion of the game is solid, enjoyable and can stand on its own, but we also definitely want gamers to play F.E.A.R. 3 cooperatively – whether it’s via split-screen or over the internet. One of our most compelling aspects of this is what we’re calling divergent co-op, which is a type of game play that gives players a unique set of abilities, and creates distinct game play experiences while they’re working towards a common goal. Our in-game scoring model adds another layer of depth to this experience, and plays on the competitive nature of the brothers.

People will not simply be playing together, rather, they’ll truly have to work together in order to succeed, but how easy it is to accomplish that -- how much damage Point Man has to take or how much help Fettel gets from his brother is up to the players. For example, both players will have access to 360 degree active cover which gives players the ability to take cover behind nearly any object, and seamlessly move from cover-to-cover during combat. Point Man also retains his super-human strength and reflexes, manifested with his slow-mo ability. His brother Fettel utilizes his paranormal powers to blast enemies with psychic energy, suspend them helplessly in mid-air for Point Man, or even take over and possess an enemy’s mind, then use their body to suit his own purposes.

Onlinewelten: The Multiplayer of F.E.A.R. is not considered to be the highlight of the game, since it can’t compete with big MP-Shooters. What are your plans to change this perception?

Jason Frederick: While I can’t say much about it yet, we’re working on some really special multiplayer modes that are unique to the F.E.A.R. franchise, and include the frenetic combat and paranormal enemies from the Campaign and Co-Op modes.

Onlinewelten: It has become established practice to release downloadable content to lengthen a game’s lifecycle. Merits and flaws of DLC are controversially debated though. Will you release your game as a whole or cut it into pieces? Do you have you any other plans?

Jason Frederick: At this time we don’t have any information to reveal about DLC. The Campaign Mode in F.E.A.R. 3 will offer a scary, frenetic and complete experience from start to finish, and we can’t wait to share every aspect of the game with players.

FEAR3 schaut total überladen aus und ich bin mir sicher das da so viel action ist, das man eh keine Angst mehr im Spiel hat.
